AT A GLANCE TRIPURA SPORTS SCHOOL,Badarghat
1. Introduction :
Department of Youth Affairs & Sports has established Sports School with a view to scout and nature Sports talents. Under this scheme genetically gifted and physically fit children are to be selected to admit in Sports School. This is completely a new type of venture that needs a minute detailing work in all respect
2. Aim :
- After initial specified training of two years those students will be exposed in the that age – group competition in State Level.
- After further training of two years students will be exposed in the National Level.
3. Objective :
Tripura Sports School is a centre of Sports excellence. It’s objective is to excel in National and International competitions by producing High Calibre sports persons from Tripura. It will also provide the best academic facilities to students on par with sports.
4. Session :
The academic session of the School is January to December.
5. Eligibility Criteria for selection :
- Any student who is studying in Class – IV (Four).
- Age – Between 9 – 10 Years as on 1st January.
- Having required standard of Motor Qualities.
6. Method of selection :
- Selection of talented students on the basis of motor quality test fixed by SAI (Sports Authority of India) will be done in each Zone of every Block (Blocks and Zones are named as per (TSSB) Tripura School Sports Board).
- Selected students of every zone will assemble in Block for first screening.
- After obtaining the results, data sheets from each block, the eligible children will be called by Head of Office & D.D.O., Tripura Sports School for final selection.
In addition to battery test as State Level selection the children will be tested in medical, chronological age and Physiological test by a team of experts and Sports scientists of SAI. The final selection for admission in Tripura Sports School will be done on the basis of result of entire test of State Level selection. A state level committee is there for taking appropriate step regarding admission.
7. Sports :
The first phase of training plan of students selected, starts with the general conditioning and will continue for the period of one year. During this period, more attention is being given for development of general motor abilities of the students apart from the teaching of fundamental of skills of various sports disciplines. The students will be kept under close observation of the coaches, experts and subject – coaches by conducting periodical physical fitness tests to assess and gauge the progress of the students. In the second phase students will be put in a specific Camp. In which they will be imparted specific skills and specific conditioning. Experts will also undertake the Anthropometric studies, measurements like height, weight, skin folds etc. At regular intervals. Later that students will be recommended by the team of experts in which sports discipline those selected students are to be trained.
8. Academics :
The academic schedule relates to Class – IV to + 2 stage of Tripura Board of Secondary Education in Bengali medium. As this is a quite different venture so to determine the syllabus for the students of Tripura Sports School a lot of thinking and scientific approach is required. The syllabus of general education is quite vast and over burdened. For the students of Tripura Sports School there is no scope to cope up with existing syllabus of Tripura Board of Secondary Education after their daily curriculum of Sports. So a team of experts comprising of Educationists, representatives of Tripura Board of Secondary Education, Sports Scientists / Expert Coaches may suggest the befitting syllabus for the students of Tripura Sports School.
9. Diet :
Since the nutrition plays a key role in the enhancement of the performance of the Sports persons, the students of Tripura Sports School will be provided with highly nutritious food. The diet chart as regards to the breakfast, lunch and dinner contains essential nutrients have been prepared with the help of experts. As and when the student advance for high sports performance, special diet charts are being prepared and served with high caloric value food depending on the requirements of such specialized Sports disciplines ( power events / non – power events ) separately. But the importance of caloric value requirement has to be taken into consideration while preparing the diet chart as follows :
- Nature of activity
- Training season
- Degree of volume of load to the individuals.
- Common Diet chart for both the Hostel.

Basic requirement :
All basic requirements for sports, academic, hostel, dress and others personal commodities i.e. A to Z shall be provided by the School Authority to the students at free of cost.
10. INFRASTRUCTURE
The following Sports Infrastructures are available in the Dasaratha Dev State Sports Complex, Badharghat for regular Sports Coaching, Academic Class and Hostel for to the students of Tripura Sports School:

- Indoor Stadium
- School Building G +3 for 700 students, The Present status is G +1 for 300 students.
- Boys Hostel – G+3 for 400 students, The Present status is G+1 for 156 students.
- Girls Hostel – G+3 for 300 students, The Present status is G+1 for 124 students.
- Gymnasium Hall
- Staff Quarters
- Artificial Rock Climbing
- Separate ground for Football and Athletics (Under construction)
This is a Residential School. All students of this School are staying in Hostel and their Fooding, lodging, Books, School Uniforms, Sports Dress & kits etc. A to Z are being provided by the Education (YAS) Deptt. The Tribal Welfare Deptt. and School Education Deptt. are extending their cooperation by providing Special Coaching in core subjects and SSA & RMSA Scheme for the students Tripura Sports School. School Education Deptt. is also providing Teachers for running of Academic Classes.
Our mission has to produce National & International slandered players since 2005. Until date, we have produced 115 National Players and 4 International Players within 12 years tenure. We do hope with the help of all of you we will be able to produce large numbers National & International players every year.

18. WEEDING OUT
Performance of each trainee is to be reviewed every year. In case of “ no improvement” or “slow improvement”, not up to desired level ; students would be weeded out. Generally, a student should not be weeded out after VIII standard. Students who complete X standard and ulfil norms will be recommended for SAI (SAG) Training Centre or SAG Centre. Guardians shall have to give written undertaking in this regard. A committee is there for monitoring of this matter.
