  • NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS) was established in the Birth Centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Indian Nation Mahatma Gandhi always dreamt about the Youth of India. Besides, during the 190 years of Foreign Rule our Nation was much devastated. To reform the Country and to make the Gandhiji’s Dream into Reality, the Scheme was launched in our Country. At the very beginning the scheme was started with 40,000 thousand students in 37 Universities of all over India. At present the No. of NSS Volunteers are more than 38 lakhs covering 293 Universities of our Country. NSS aims to develop the personality of the students/youth through the Community Service. The main motto of the Scheme is “Not Me But You”.

In Tripura the scheme(NSS) was started in the year 1976 with 600 students of 6 Nos. of Colleges. In the year 1995 the Scheme was extended in the H.S. School in (+2) level. At present there are 32,600 NSS Volunteers in Tripura covering 363 NSS Units at Educational Institutions including Tripura University, Colleges, Open and H.S. Schools. The NSS Volunteers take part in the multi-various types of activities like Blood Donation, Pulse Polio Immunization, Environment Campaign, Plantation,  Awareness Programmes (i.e. AIDS, Disaster Management, Legal Affaires, Consumer Affairs, Anti Dowry, Anti Tobacco, Anti Drags, Human Rights, Health Camps, Maintaining Social Distance programme at Bank, Market, Ratio Shop etc., Food Distribution to the Poor People and beggar at all over Tripura, Self Defense Programme for Girl students, Cleanliness Drives, Gardening, Making Mask & Distribution, etc.) are some of the Activities undertaken by the NSS Units.

  • THE COLOURS OF NSS SYMBOL :

Red : Red Means youth, enthusiastic and Fresh Blood.

Blue : NSS is tiny part ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind.

There are 8(eight) Sticks means 8 prahars i.e. 8 prahars x 3 hours = 24 hours that means NSS Volunteers are ready to serve the nations for 24 hours.
