HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT:

The Regional College of Physical Education, Panisagar was established by the Department of Education (Youth Affairs & Sports), Govt. of Tripura in 25^th July,1977. Earlier the college was Basic Training College. The Institute started as an affiliated college by the NCTE under the Calcutta University in 1978 and then came to the fold under Tripura University in 1997. The institute was given the status of National Importance. In recognition of its unique status and character and to facilitate its further growth, the college was conferred the status. Its main aim is to upgrade the status of physical education by offering post graduate course in the field of physical education and sports for the first time in the State.

OBJECTIVES OF THE COLLEGE:

The objectives of the college are as under,

To prepare highly qualified teachers and leaders in the field of physical education and sports.
To serve as a center of excellence and innovation in physical education and sports.
To provide professional and academic leadership to other institutions in the field of physical education.
To promote mass participation in physical education and sports.
To develop and promote programmes of physical education and sports in the country.
To encourage and produce scientific contemporary literature in the field of physical education and sports.
To provide community service in the field of physical education and sports.

LAUNCHING OF ACADEMIC PROGRAMMEs:

The main purpose of establishing this college was to upgrade the status of physical education by producing quality teachers and leaders through graduate and post graduate course. One year Bachelor of Physical Education(BPEd) was started in 1978-79 and Certificate of Physical education(CPEd) in 1977. In 1978-79, the then college reached yet another milestone and became the first institution in North East to have offered one year programme of BPEd. The duration of Bachelor of physical education (BPEd) course was initially of one year. The Bachelot of Physical education course was introduce on 1996-97n instead of Diploma in Physical Education(DPEd) course.

CAMPUS:

The Regional College of Physical education, Panisagar campus is located near the 44 National Highway and located at the distance of about one kilometer from Panisagar Railway Station with little hilly, natural greenwoods and pollution free area. Panisagar is situated on North Tripura District about 170 km from State Capital Agartala. College campus covers an area of about 49 acres and is fully residential. The building of the college consists of class rooms, separate hostel facility of men and women, well equipped play ground, swimming pool, computer lab with internet facility, library cum reading room with 12,000 books, auditorium and newly constructed administrative block.

RCPE is the pride of the North East region and students have been coming from the NE States by fulfilling their 60 nos. seats. As fact that it is an institution of Technical Profession and impart moral values, accountability, compassion, cooperation, discipline, manner, behavior etc. to the students. Out of 60 seats are allocated for the NE States are as follows:-

a) Assam -08 b) Arunachal Pradesh-07 c) Meghalaya-05 d) Mizoram-08 e) Manipur-08 f) Nagaland-05 g) Tripura-15 h) Sikkim-04

Intake, Eligibility, Admission procedure and fees:

A) INTAKE

There shall be a basic unit of 60 students for each year

B) ELIGIBILITY

Bachelor’s Degree in Physical education with 50% marks.

Bachelor’s Degree with Physical education as an elective subject with 50% marks.

Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education with 45% marks

Bachelor’s Degree with physical education as an elective subject with forty 45% marks and participation in National/All India Inter-University / Inter-University competitions in sports recognized by AIU or IOA.

For deputed (in service candidate i.e. Physical education Teachers/Coach)Graduate with 45% marks. The reservation in seats and relaxation in the qualifying marks for SC/ST/OBC and other categories shall be as per rules of the Central Government/State Government whichever is applicable.

C) ADMISSION PROCEDURE:

Admission shall be made on merit on the basis of marks obtained in the entrance examination(sports proficiency test, physical fitness test and marks obtained in qualifying examination) or any other selection process as per the policy of the State Government.

D) FEES:

The Institution shall charge only such fees as prescribed by the affiliating body/State Govt. concern in accordance with provision of NCTE(Guidelines for regulation of tuition fees and other fees chargeable by unaided teacher education institution) Regulations,2002.
